This is Panda when we first saw him at the Indianapolis Animal Care Services shelter. He was so matted and filthy. The only way he could see was to raise his head and try to peer from under the huge matt of fur over his eyes.  He was brought in as a stray to the shelter and was not claimed by an owner.  The shelter staff shaved his fur and treated him for fleas. They did the best they could for him, but he obviously needed more help than their resources allowed. Misty Eyes pulled him from the shelter and, although things had improved, he was still in rough shape. He had skin issues due to the severe matting,  an ugly mass on one front leg, his nails were horribly overgrown, his teeth were in very poor condition, and he had scars on his back from some previous trauma.

Panda’s Freedom Ride From The Shelter

Scars On Panda’s Back

We took Panda to our team of vets as soon as possible, and he received treatment for his skin problems. He had dental surgery to correct his poor teeth, the mass on his leg was removed, had his nails trimmed and his ears cleaned. Fortunately, the mass on his leg proved to be benign. With the wonderful vet care he received, some good nutrition and time to learn to be a dog again, Panda soon became a sweet, happy little guy who was ready to find a forever home.

Happily, on August 17, 2017, Panda was adopted and has since become a much loved (and spoiled) companion.  This tough little guy deserves all the happiness coming his way.
